Transitioning your pet from kibble or canned dog food to raw food is an important step. There are two methods we recommend. Which one you select should be based on the health or special needs of your pet.
Pick the day you want to begin feeding Simply Raw!. Stop feeding kibble 24 hours prior to the transition. Fasting your pet is a great way to clear out the digestive system to begin their healthy diet. As soon as you transition they will begin enjoying the benefits of a raw diet immediately. Use the feeding guideline below to determine how much to feed your pet.
Puppy: If you are transitioning a puppy do not fast. Simply make the switch from kibble to raw.
Note: Elderly pets and those that have digestive issues and/or gastrointestinal disorders should not use the quick transition.
The slow transition method can take a few days to a few weeks. Your dog should be the one to tell you how quickly you should transition. To start, make his meal 75% old food and 25% Simply Raw!. You’ll know it’s time to increase your dog’s ratio of Simply Raw! when he has solid stool. Increase Simply Raw! by another 25% in a few days or when you see that your pet is acclimating to the change in diet. Observe your dog’s reaction to the new food and increase according to what you think is best, based on his tolerance. Look for firm stools before you make any new changes. If he is really sensitive to the change, add only 10% at a time.
Many pets will transition quickly and consume the raw food with vigor. On a raw diet your pet's stool size will be greatly reduced. Stools will become small, firm and void of any offensive odor. If your pet's stool is soft or loose as a result of the transition, introduce Simply Raw! more slowly.
This entire process usually only takes about two weeks. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us and we will be happy to walk you through the process.
Simply Raw! should be kept frozen until ready for use. For you and your pets safety thaw our food slowly in the refrigerator to keep at a cold temperature which helps prevent developing unwanted bacteria. Wash hands and all work surfaces with hot soapy water after handling. Refrigerate leftovers immediately or discard.
The general rule is to feed a healthy adult dog between 2-3% of its ideal weight daily and then adjust as needed. If you have an overweight dog start on the lower end
of the spectrum. If you have a dog who needs to gain a little bit of weight start closer to 4%. You will be able to judge by looking at your dog. Puppies may require up to 10%
of their weight daily during growth. The chart below provides a good guideline.
